New proposals to amend the law on legal status of the aliens
On 25 of August, 2010 Lithuanian Government has approved the amendments of the law on legal status of the aliens, which shall help to attract from abroad to Lithuania more highly qualified specialist, reduce illegal work of aliens and shall make better conditions to return to Lithuania the aliens who are of Lithuanian origin. New wording of the law makes better conditions for all aliens and especially for highly qualified specialists to come to Lithuania, because it is proposed to shorten the terms of the time limits for the examination of applications for the issue of a residence permit. Also it is proposed to supplement the lists of basis which is the ground to issue the residence permit and to simplify the procedure of issue of work permits, i.e. the employers who intents to engage the highly qualified specialists from abroad, shall have no obligation applying to Lithuanian Labour Exchange Bureau, because this will be done by state institutions. In order to avoid illegal work of the aliens, it is proposed to oblige the employers to cover the costs of the expulsion all illegal employee from the Republic of Lithuania. In the new wording of the law on legal status of the aliens it is also intended to allow the aliens to use all the public electronic services. For this purpose it is proposed to introduce new special certifications, which allow using the public electronic services. These new proposals of the law on legal status of the aliens shall be considered at the future sittings of Seimas.
